How to Combine Two Separate Pictures to Make One in Photoshop
One of the more useful features in Adobe Photoshop is its ability to let users combine separate pictures into a single image. This effect is often used for posters or artwork. There are several ways to accomplish this using Photoshop. But one of the more interesting approaches is to create an artistic effect where a section of the image seems to fade into the background. The process is relatively simple and quick.

1
Load the two images that you want to work with on your computer by copying them from a camera or other storage medium, or by scanning in prints.
-
2
Open Photoshop. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog that now appears, go to the two images that you want to work with and open them. Select one of the two documents to work with.

3
Go to the "Layers" palette on the right and right click on the background layer. From the options shown, choose "Duplicate Layer." Choose the other open document as the "Destination." Close the document.
-
4
Go to the other document and select the top layer. Select the "Magnetic Selection" tool from the tool palette. Set the "Feather" in the tool options at the top to 20-30. Use it to draw a selection around some element in the layer that you want to keep and have fade into the background.
-
5
Select "Select" from the menu and choose "Inverse." Press "Delete" on your keyboard. The remaining foreground element now blends smoothly into the background, combining the two pictures.
