How to Use Steam to Fix a Hardwood Floor
A hardwood floor is durable, easy to maintain and grows more beautiful over time. The beauty of a hardwood floor can be marred by the minor indentation or impressions left by furniture legs, the impact of a dropped object or even rough use of a child's toy. Removing these unsightly blemishes can be accomplished using a method flooring professionals turn to for these minor superficial marks. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Heat a standard household iron to its highest, or "steam," setting.
-
2
Dampen a small cotton towel and lay it over the blemish in the hardwood floor.
-
-
3
Rest the heated iron on the damp towel positioned in Step 2 and allow the iron to heat the moisture in the towel. The heated steam from the towel will penetrate the wood grain of the floor and cause the grain the swell, raising the blemish.
-
4
Lift the iron from the towel and remove the towel to check the swelling of the blemish. Repeat as necessary until the impression in the flooring has leveled with the adjacent floor surface.

Tips & Warnings
Steaming a hardwood floor will only remove very superficial blemishes and indentations. Repeated steam treatments can breakdown or damage the floor's finish material. Indentations too severe to respond to steam treatment should be referred to a flooring professional for repair.
