How to Make Puppets at Home
Making puppets at home is a fun craft for kids, and a good way to recycle some paper bags. Kids can get really creative and make any type of puppets they want, and you can use things you already have around the house to decorate your puppets. Once you're done making puppets, put on a puppet show for the whole family.
Things You'll Need
- Paper bags, any color
- Glue
- Scissors
- Googly eyes
- Markers, crayons
- Construction paper
- Embellishments, such as glitter, ribbons, yarn or buttons
Instructions

1
Place paper bags laying flat with the bottom flap facing up. Use the flap to create a mouth for your puppet, so the bottom of the bag will be the head.
-
2
Decide whether you want to make a person or animal puppet.

3
Decorate your puppet. If you're making an animal puppet, glue a tongue under the flap, and cut ears out of construction paper and glue them on. For a person, either color on clothes or cut an outfit out of construction paper and glue it on. Use your imagination and get creative.

4
Embellish your puppet. Glue on yarn or ribbon for hair, use glitter glue to add sparkle or glue on bits of gift wrap, beads or googly eyes. Allow the glue to dry.
-
5
Stick your hand in the puppet and your fingers in the bottom part. Move your hands to make it look as if the mouth part (the flap) is talking. Now put on a puppet show for friends and family.
