The Proper Way to Address a Package
Proper package preparation helps your package navigate its way through a delivery service for prompt delivery to its destination. Follow the delivery service's specific instructions or you may experience a delay in delivery or the package may even be misrouted. After you seal and prepare the package securely, the last step is to address the package properly to avoid delivery problems.

1
On the first line, enter or write the recipient's full name in all capital letters. If the recipient has a business name, place this on the second line.
Place the apartment or suite number on the third line and the street address on the fourth line. Use common abbreviations for "street," "avenue" and "boulevard." Place the city, state and zip code or zip+4 code on the last line. Use common state abbreviations.
The zip+4 code is the regular five-digit zip code followed by a hyphen and four more digits. It is used for greater address specificity.
-
2
Place your return address in the upper left corner. Put your full name on the first line, your street address on the second line and your city, state and zip or zip+4 code on the third line.

3
Place the appropriate postage in the upper right corner if you know the amount. If you do not know the amount of postage your package requires, take it directly to the post office or delivery service you will use for shipping and have it weighed. Pay for the postage; the employee will affix it to the package for you and starts the package on its way through the delivery system.
-
4
If your package is fragile or requires special handling, request special stamp labeling to avoid damage to your package in transit.

Tips & Warnings
Delivery personnel must be able to read your printed or hand-written address and return address from about 2 ft. away. Make the letters on your package large enough to enable this.
