How to Crochet Basic Potholders
Basic crocheted potholders are not only extremely simple to make, they make a useful kitchen accessory as well. Depending on the yarn you use, you can simply throw them in the washing machine and dryer when they get dirty. They work great for housewarming gifts and hostess gifts, and can be made to match any decor. In addition, they are a wonderful project for a beginning crocheter, using only one basic stitch and no alternate techniques.

Tips & Warnings
Change yarn every four or five rows to create stripes.
To make a double-thick potholder, make two squares and place them together. Stitch the border through both layers.
If you plan on using the potholders for very high heat, do not use 100 percent synthetic yarn. It will melt. Instead, use cotton or 50/50.
