Use a DVD/VCR combo player to play both DVDs and VHS cassettes on your television

DVD/VCR combo players provide convenience if you have both a DVD and VHS collection. Instead of discarding your VHS movies and buying DVD versions, you can save money by purchasing a combo player that works with both formats. DVD/VCR combo players are also helpful if your VHS content is otherwise irreplaceable. Connect your DVD/VCR combo player to a television's available HDMI or RCA audio/video input and output ports.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine your television and DVD/VCR combo player's input and output ports. Use HDMI, if both devices feature such ports, as this provides best quality and only requires one cable. Otherwise, locate the RCA--also known as composite--audio and video input and output ports on both devices.

Connect the DVD/VCR combo player's output to your television's input. Insert one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on both the DVD/VCR recorder and television. Otherwise, Insert one end of an RCA cable into each of the color-coded jacks marked "Audio Out" and "Video Out" on the DVD/VCR combo player. Insert the other ends of the same cables into the "Audio In" and "Video In" ports on the television.
