Boot Disks for Windows 98 SE were put onto floppy diskettes.

Windows 98 SE is an operating system released in 1999 as an upgrade with more features and fixes to the original Windows 98. It included upgrades to different software applications, such as Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player, and several security components. You can use a boot disk to gain access to the hard drive should something go wrong with the operating system. If you can't access the hard drive, you can use your boot disk to boot up the system and issue MS-DOS commands to try to fix the problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the free Windows 98 boot disk-making software.

    • 2

Double-click on the file you downloaded and wait for an MS-DOS window to appear. It will look like a small black window with white text inside.

    • 3

Insert your floppy diskette into your floppy drive, also known as the "A" drive. When the MS-DOS window appears, it will ask you in which drive you want to make the boot disk. Hit the "A" key and it will ask if you are sure you want to make the disk. Making the boot disk will erase what is on the floppy diskette already. Hit the "Y" key to confirm you want to make the boot disk.

Wait for MS-DOS to make the Windows 98 SE boot disk. The MS-DOS window will close when it is finished. You'll also know the process completed because the light under the floppy diskette will turn off, meaning that the disk is no longer in use.
