Decide on what type of insurance you want to sell. You can choose from life insurance, auto insurance or property and casualty insurance. There is good money to be made by selling either type of insurance; it just depends on what your preference is.

Take the proper courses mandated by the state of Minnesota for getting your insurance license. You can check to see what the courses are at the Minnesota Department of Commerce website. Click the "Licenses, Registration, Certification" tab at the top of the home page to get information about required courses. This same page will have information on where to take the classes both on and offline.

Register to take the Minnesota state exam for insurance licensing. This can be done at pearsonvue.com. This website is the official test taking center for the state of Minnesota. Fill out the online application and submit the fee.

Prepare for your state exam. Make good use of all of your study aids, notes and anything else that will help you pass the test. If there is a licensing practice test, take it a few times to get a good feel for what to expect on the real exam.

Pass your test. If you have studied thoroughly and taken any practice tests, you should be able to do well on the exam. In addition, you need to get enough sleep the night before so that you are well rested. Eat a good breakfast the morning of the test.
