How to Transfer an Alaska Insurance License to Texas
Not only is moving from Alaska to Texas logistically a big move, but if you earn your living from commissions as an insurance professional and have an insurance license in Alaska, you'll have to make arrangements to become licensed in Texas. The procedure for transferring an Alaska insurance license to Texas is simple as long as your current Alaska license is in good standing and has not expired.

1
Apply for a non-resident insurance license for the state of Texas before you move. Texas is a reciprocal state, which means if you have a license in good standing in your home state, Texas will issue a non-resident license to conduct business in Texas.
-
2
Notify the Texas Licensing Division of your change of address once you move to Texas. If you have a non-resident Texas license, you can convert it to a resident license by notifying the Texas Department of Insurance of the address change (see Resources).

-
3
Visit the National Insurance Producer Registry website and request a change of address (see Resources). If you moved to Texas on the spur of the moment and didn't get a chance to request a non-resident insurance license but hold a valid license in Alaska, you can notify the NIPR of the change of address to get it updated in the national registry.
-
4
Process the change of address request prior to license expiration. If you allow your insurance license to lapse before changing your address, you will have to apply for a license as if you were not previously licensed.
-
5
Adhere to the Texas continuing education requirements. Texas requires all of its insurance agents to take continuing education classes to maintain their insurance licenses. The number of class hours varies depending on the license type. Visit the Texas Department of Insurance for continuing education requirements and locations to take the classes (see References).
