Swing swords and hurl magical spells and monsters and demons in the computer game "Diablo II." While the game offers a basic, minimal installation mode that requires the CD, there is another alternative available. If you have enough memory free in your computer's hard drive, you can perform a full installation and run the game without the use of the CD. The benefit is that you can play the game on the go without having to worry about having the "Diablo II" play disc.

Instructions

  1. Windows

    • 1

      Insert the game disc into your computer. Select "Full Install" if you are installing for the first time, or "Upgrade to Full Install" if you already have Diablo II in the system. Follow the on-screen procedures during the installation process until it has concluded.

      Right-click the Diablo 2 play disc on the CD-ROM drive and select "Explore" to open its directory. Navigate and find the file called "D2MUSIC.MPQ."

      Navigate into your Diablo II installation folder by opening the drive it's installed in (by default it's the "C" drive). Then double click to open "Program Files" and then the "Diablo II" folder.

      Drag and drop the "D2MUSIC.MPQ" file into the Diablo II installation folder.

    Macintosh

      Insert the game disc. Select "Full Install" if you are installing for the first time, or "Upgrade to Full Install" if you already have Diablo II in the system. Follow the on-screen procedures during the installation process until it has concluded.

      Open the Diablo II play disc mounted on your Macintosh's CD drive. Navigate through the game directory until you find the file called "D2MUSIC.MPQ."

      Navigate through your Macintosh hard drive to find the Diablo II folder. Drag and drop "D2MUSIC.MPQ" from the CD directory into your Diablo II folder.

      Click on the "D2MUSIC.MPQ" file name. Rename this file to "Diablo II Music."

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have the expansion game "Diablo II: Lord of Destruction," you will have to perform a full installation. Then you must copy the "D2XMUSIC.MPQ" and "D2XVIDEO.MPQ" files from the expansion CD and into your Diablo II installation folder.
