Free FLV players are available online.

Files with the FLV extension are Flash Videos. They are most commonly seen on Websites like YouTube and they play in your Web browser using Adobe Flash. When Flash videos are first downloaded to a computer they typically don't have programs associated with them because most computers don't have programs that play them by default. Many free programs and media players are available online that support the Flash format, and downloading any of these programs will make it possible to play an FLV file on your computer.

Instructions

  1. Using The VLC Media Player

    • 1

Download the VLC Media Player (see Resources). The VLC Player is a free program that can play a variety of media files, including FLV. Install the program and launch it after installation is complete.

    • 2

Go to "Media" and then "Open File" and select the FLV file you want to play.

    • 3

Click "Open" and the VLC Media Player will begin playback of the FLV file you chose.

    Using Media Player Classic

    • 4

Download and install the Media Player Classic. This is a free media player that is based off of WIndows' original Media Player program. It can also play a variety of media files, including FLV files.

    • 5

Launch the program after installation and go to "File" and then "Quick Open File."

    • 6

Select the FLV file you want to play and click "Open." Media Player Classic will begin playback of the file.

    Using FLV Player

    • 7

Download and install the FLV Player (see Resources). Like its name suggests, this player strictly plays FLV files and nothing else.

    • 8

After installation is complete launch the program. Click where it says "Click Here" and select an FLV file you want to play.

    • 9

Click "Open" and the FLV Player will launch the file you selected.

Tips & Warnings

  • After you've chosen a program to play FLV files, associate the FLV extension with that program. Right click on any FLV file and go to "Open With" and then "Choose Default Program." Select the player you like from the list and click "Okay." Uninstall the programs you'll no longer use.
