How to Use the Built-in Memory Card Reader on a Gateway Laptop
Memory cards are a great way to store media obtained on an electronic device, such as a cell phone. But you may not know that many computers, such as Gateway computers, come with a memory card reader already built in. This makes transferring media from one device to another easy and convenient. But if you don't know how to use the memory card reader in your computer, you're probably stuck. The good news is that using the memory card reader in your computer is a relatively quick and easy process.

Use your fingers to remove the plastic slot protector covering the opening in your memory card reader and make sure your computer is turned on.

Insert your memory card into the opening in the card reader with the label side facing up. If there are arrows printed on the label, they point the way that the card needs to be inserted.

Click on the "Start" tab in the bottom left corner of the computer desktop and then select "My Computer" from the list of options.

Locate the memory card in the list of drives that appears in the new window and click on it to bring up the contents of the card in a new window.

Close the memory card window when finished and make sure the disk drive status indicator light is off.

Press the eject button on the card slot to retrieve your memory card. If there is no eject button, simply press the card slightly farther into the slot, and it will pop slightly out. Then you can remove it.
