Make a receiving blanket for a baby doll using flannel fabric.

A receiving blanket keeps a baby lightly covered or swaddled. Most receiving blankets are lightweight and large enough to wrap around a small baby, keeping them warm and secure. Small children with baby dolls will enjoy using many of the same baby items that parents with real babies use. Make a receiving blanket for a baby doll to help your child wrap her doll up securely.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure a 24-inch square in the flannel fabric and draw the square with the fabric pen. Cut the square out with the scissors.

    • 2

Lay the flannel square onto a flat surface with the wrong side facing up. Place the drinking glass into a corner of the square so that the edges of the glass are at the edge of the corner of the flannel. Trace around the outer edge of the drinking glass with the fabric pen to create a rounded corner in the flannel. Cut along the line with the scissors.

    • 3

Repeat Step 2 on the remaining three corners to make four rounded corners in the flannel.

    • 4

Place the fabric into the serger and sew an overlock stitch around the entire perimeter. Stop stitching when you come back around to your starting point and remove the fabric from the serger.

    • 5

Clip the stray threads to finish the receiving blanket.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not have a serger, fold under the outer edge of the flannel 1/4-inch and press the fold. Fold under the outer edge another 1/4-inch and press this fold. Stitch a zigzag stitch around the entire perimeter of the blanket to hem it.
