How to Paint an Engine Bay
It's inevitable: because you drive your car on the road and not on a pristine surface, your engine bay is going to get dirty and possibly even scratched. Don't despair: paint it. This is something you can do in a few days or even a weekend. Your engine bay will look fresh and new again.

1
Clean the inside of the engine bay with a Shop Vac to remove any loose particles of dirt and debris.
-
2
Go over the surfaces of the engine bay with a wire brush to remove any rust. Wear eye and dust protection.
-
-
3
Wash the inside of the engine bay with either paint thinner or dish detergent. This will remove any grease and oil that might keep the new paint from adhering.
-
4
Vacuum the surface again, then wash it one more time with paint thinner or dish detergent. Wait until the surface dries before continuing.
-
5
Apply primer paint to the engine bay with a gravity-fed spray gun. Let the paint dry. If necessary, apply a second coat.
-
6
Apply a coat of finish paint in the engine bay. The paint needs to be tough and have a surface that can withstand scratching and chipping.
