Recycling trash and various materials is an eco-friendly way to help lessen pollutants in the environment. A piece of junk such as an old tractor seat could be used to be part of a new stool you can use every day. Any old seat found in your garage or local junk shop (such as a lawn mower seat) is ideal for this project and could be constructed at a relatively low cost.
Things You'll Need
- Drawing paper
- Old stool or chair
- Strong glue or liquid adhesive
- Wooden plank at least ½ inch thick
- Hand or motorized saw
- 4 to 6 screws
Lay the piece of drawing paper on a table and place the tractor seat on top of the paper.
Trace the shape of the seat to the paper. using a pencil. Don’t worry about making a clean trace. A general outline of the shape of the tractor seat is all you need. Some tractor seats may have raised backsides. Mark the trace where the seat touches the paper.
Cut the paper and follow the trace, using scissors. Place the paper at the bottom of the tractor seat and check for proper fit. Cut accordingly for proper shape.
Place the paper on the wooden plank and trace the outline of the paper, using a pencil.
Cut the wooden plank, using a saw or any preferred power tool for cutting wood. Smooth the rough edges with sandpaper when needed.
Place the wooden plank at the bottom of the tractor chair and check for proper fit and level. Apply glue to the plank and attach to the tractor chair. Let it dry.
Disassemble an old stool, using a screwdriver. Only the legs are used and an old cross-legged stool with metal legs is ideal.
Place the tractor seat on the metal legs of the old stool. The wooden plank will add thickness and serve as the base for the legs to attach to. Use screws to secure the legs to the wooden plank and tighten with a screwdriver.
Tips & Warnings
- Tractor seats or any similar seat come in different shapes and sizes. The configuration for the seat could vary as installation or disassembly procedures could be different with each make and model.
