How to Install Schon Flooring
Schon is a popular flooring manufacturer who makes a variety of floor system, including glue-down wood laminate floors. This is a great solution for cement-slab basements and other areas where you want the warmth of wood but can’t nail it down. As with all wood flooring, your Schon flooring should be allowed to sit for a week or more in the room before installation to allow it to acclimate to the environment. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean the subfloor with soapy water and a rag and let it dry completely.
-
2
Lay flooring glue along the side of the floor where you want to start (away from the doorway), coming out about two feet from the wall, using an adhesive trowel.
-
-
3
Set your first Schon flooring planks in place end to end, with the grooved side of the planks facing the wall. Stand wood shims between the boards and the wall to create a small space that will allow the wood to move with climate changes. Fit the final board in the course by cutting it on a miter saw.
-
4
Lay the second course alongside the first, locking the boards together at the sides. Proceed across the floor, course by course, cutting the boards at the ends as needed. Continue until you’re near the opposite wall. Let the flooring sit overnight, so you can stand on the previously laid flooring.
-
5
Lay the final courses of boards, cutting the last course length-wise on a table saw if necessary so it fits against the wall while leaving a space there the width of a shim. Floor trim will cover the spaces by the walls.
