How to Learn Taxidermy Online

How to Learn Taxidermy Online thumbnail
Taxidermy training can be done online if you are interested in taking it up just as a hobby.

Taxidermy is an art form that requires hours of training to master. Becoming a successful taxidermist requires you to be extremely familiar with the anatomy of animals and is not for those who are easily squeamish. To become a certified taxidermist, you have to attend an accredited taxidermy school. But if you just want to learn taxidermy for non-commercial purposes, then online courses are the perfect option. An online option gives you more flexibility to fit your courses into a busy schedule and saves you travel time and the cost of transportation by completing these courses at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact your local community college or adult continuing education center and ask if it has online taxidermist classes. It is best to check local schools first, since you can talk to the instructor in person if any problems arise.

    • 2

Sign up for online courses at a school like the American Institute of Taxidermy. This school provides a variety of courses, whether you are a beginner and want to start with something simple like a bird, or you have had some experience and want to challenge yourself with a coyote. All the supplies are mailed to you and all that is required is high-speed Internet.

    • 3

Attend your chosen course, which is broadcast live online every Saturday at 9 a.m. CST. If another time works better for you, the video stays online for up to one week after its posted.

Tips & Warnings

  • Set aside a place in your home where you do not have to worry about getting messy and can perform all the duties that are required for taxidermy. An ideal place would be your back yard, basement or garage.
