It is possible to send a fax using your broadband Internet connection through an Internet faxing service. These services allow you to send and receive faxes without using a traditional fax machine. By using Internet faxing, you do not have to purchase or maintain any fax equipment, and the Internet fax service will keep a record of all the faxes you send using the Internet fax service.

Sign up for an Internet fax service. There are many of these services available on the Internet. Examples of companies that offer Internet fax service include: MyFax, eFax, and MetroFax. Most of the Internet fax services charge a monthly fee of approximately $10 and a small per page fee for every fax sent--approximately 10 cents. Many of the services give you an allotment of pages that you can send for free included with your monthly fee.

Create the fax that you would like to send. Make sure you are saving the fax in a format that is recognized by the Internet fax service you signed up for. Formats that are compatible with most Internet fax services include: PDF files, Microsoft Word and Excel files and JPG picture files.

Log on to the Internet fax service you signed up for. All of the Internet fax services offer user-friendly interfaces that allow you to send faxes and manage your account.

Click the option to "Send a fax." The Internet fax service will ask you to attach the file you want to fax. Find and upload the file you created in Step #2.

Enter the telephone number including the area code that you want to fax your document to. Many of the Internet fax services will also allow you to fax to International numbers for an additional fee. Select the option to "Send the fax."
