How to Print a Negative From a Scanner

How to Print a Negative From a Scanner thumbnail
Scan in film negatives into your computer.

Digital scanners are capable of importing just about any image or hard copy document, including film negatives. These scanned negatives are then saved onto the computer, allowing you to print the contents at a later date. No matter what scanner you use, the importing process is exactly the same. However, the quality of the scanned image is going to vary depending on the scanner you are using.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the scanner and set the negative down in the corner of the scanner bed. It is best if you only scan one negative image at a time because negatives tend to roll up on themselves when scanning more than one at a time.

    • 2

Click "Start," then "All Programs," then "Accessories," then "Scanner and Camera Wizard." This is an application that allows you to import images from connected scanners and cameras.

    • 3

Turn on the scanner. The program will detect the connected device.

    • 4

Select "Scan," and the scanner will import the negative image. Once complete, the full image will appear on your screen. The imported image should look like an enlarged version of the film negative you just scanned in.

    • 5

Choose "File," then "Print," and the printer selection screen will appear on the page. Choose the amount of copies you want, then click "Print," and the scanned negative will print.
