How to Remove the Copy.exe Virus From Windows XP

Microsoft Internet Explorer uses the Copy.exe system file to maintain stability. Sometimes, though, a virus can make itself out to be a legtimate file, such as Copy.exe, to fool you into thinking that it belongs in the computer system. If you suspect that Copy.exe is indeed a virus, Microsoft provides a native tool within the Windows XP operating system to remove this malicious virus. This tool is called the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool.

• Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool

Instructions

1. Click on the "Start" button located on the computer's desktop and click on "Run." Type "MRT" and press the "OK" button. This will initiate Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool.

2. Click on "Next."

3. Select the "Full Scan" option. This scan takes more time than the "quick scan" option, but is much more thorough.

4. Click on the "Next" button and allow the tool to do a full, complete scan of your computer hard drive.

5. Follow the instructional prompts in the tool once the virus is found to eradicate the Copy.exe virus.

6. Click on the "Finish" button. Your computer is now free of the Copy.exe computer virus.
