How to Get Obese Kids Involved in Sports
Children in our culture sometimes don't get as much physical activity as they should. The Western diet is filled with sugar, fats and processed foods. These can all contribute to childhood obesity. When you pair lack of physical activity with a high-fat diet, you have a recipe for disaster. Add to that, once a child is obese, it's difficult to help him lose weight. One strategy is to get the child interested in sports. Playing a sport can be a fun activity that requires exercise, and since the child may enjoy himself, that exercise won't seem like work.

1
Get in the game. Kids learn by example, so get involved in sports yourself. Join an adult softball league. If you're involved in sports in some way, your child will be more likely to participate.
-
2
Coach the team. Agree to coach your child's little league or softball team. If you're going to practice every day, you can motivate your child in person on a daily basis.

3
Involve the whole family. If your child shows no interest in organized sports, or is too self-conscious to play with his peers, start a family tradition of playing sports. You can get a baseball, softball or soccer game going right in your own backyard.

4
Join a charitable running or walking event with your child. This will both encourage your child to get active and teach him to give back to the community.
