How to Make a Mouse Bookmark with Acrylic Crafting Felt

Spend an afternoon creating a cute mouse bookmark to mark your spot when it's time to close your book. Acrylic crafting felt is an inexpensive material available at craft or fabric stores. Examine the quality of the felt before purchasing it. Some types of acrylic felt are extremely thin and your bookmark may fall apart quickly if you use a low-quality felt. Look for acrylic crafting felt that is opaque even when held up to the light to ensure that it is high quality.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold a piece of 9-inch-by-12-inch acrylic crafting felt in half. Acrylic felt is usually sold in sheets measuring nine inches by 12 inches and you can probably make two mouse bookmarks from one sheet. The felt will form the body of your mouse bookmark, so choose the appropriate color.

    • 2

Draw a teardrop shape approximately four inches long on the felt with a piece of chalk. Cut the shape out of the folded felt to create two felt teardrops.

    • 3

Cut a six-inch length of ribbon or yarn to create the mouse's tail.

    • 4

Place the ribbon on one of the felt teardrops so that the end of the ribbon extends four inches past the wider end of the teardrop. Glue the ribbon in place with white craft glue.

    • 5

Squeeze a thin line of white craft glue along the outer edge of the felt teardrop with the ribbon attached. Gently press the second teardrop onto the first to complete the mouse's body.

    • 6

Glue two craft eyes near the pointed end of the teardrop.

    • 7

Cut two 1 1/2-inch diameter circles from your acrylic craft felt in the same color as the mouse's body. Glue these circles above the craft eyes to form the mouse's ears.

    • 8

Cut two smaller circles from pink felt to form the inner part of the mouse's ears. If your mouse is already pink, use a lighter or darker pink for the inner part of the ear. Glue these circles in place with the white craft glue.

    • 9

Cut three pieces of black embroidery floss approximately five inches long. Hold the pieces together and tie a knot in the center of the three threads. You will have a small knot with three threads extending 2 1/2 inches from each side. Glue the knot to the tip of the teardrop to form the mouse's whiskers.

    • 10

Let the craft glue dry completely before you begin using the mouse bookmark. When the glue is dry, place the body of the mouse inside the book with the tail sticking out to mark your page.
