How to Get Rid of Mites in a Bed
Dust mites can exist everywhere, including your bed. To get rid of the dust mites in your bed, you basically have to get rid of dust. This involves a cleaning process that focuses on preventing and controlling dust, as well as getting rid of the dust that already exists. Once you get rid of the dust mites in your bed, you'll have to continuously follow the same cleaning procedure and preventative measures to make sure the dust mites don't return. Remove the sheets, pillows, blanket and comforter from your bed. Wash them in very hot water, meaning at least 130 degrees Fahrenheit. Repeat this process weekly or semi-weekly to keep the dust mites away.

Choose synthetic fabrics for your bedding, such as nylon or cotton. Dust mites are attracted to fabrics like wool and feather or down pillows.

Keep your home at a temperature of about 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Dust mites are attracted to warmth.

Use a dehumidifier to keep the humidity down in your home. This is especially important for beds located in a basement or for those living in very humid environments.

Wash children's stuffed animals in hot water, as you did your bedding. Try to purchase stuffed animals that are washable.

Use an air purifier. This will help get rid of dust mites in the air that will eventually settle on your bed. Air purifiers with HEPA filters work best.
