Clearing your Xbox 360's cache can improve system performance.

The Xbox 360 temporarily stores random data and permanently stores game updates in the cache of its hard drive. As you continue to play new games, and download patches and updates, the cache becomes overfilled with information. This can result in lagging for certain games and an overall sluggish response time for your Xbox 360. Clearing the cache removes the information in the cache and speeds up your system.

Instructions

    • 1

Start your Xbox 360 and navigate to the "System" menu.

    • 2

Select "Memory" to proceed to the hard drive screen.

    • 3

Press "Y" to bring up the hard drive options.

    • 4

      Press "X," "X," "LB," "RB," "X," and "X."

    • 5

Choose "Yes" when prompted to clear the hard drive cache.

Tips & Warnings

  • Clearing the cache will remove your updates, but you can download them again from either the Xbox 360 marketplace or when prompted to by a game.
