Homemade Model Cars
Use an empty juice box, milk jug or egg carton for the body of the car. Cover the car body with duct tape or construction paper. Use aluminum foil for headlights. Cut small squares or circles out of the foil and glue them onto the front of the "car."
Cut a rectangle or square from a piece of cardboard to create a windshield. Make it the same width as the car. Tape plastic wrap to the back of the windshield. Tape the windshield to the car with duct tape or glue it down. If you glue the windshield, allow it to dry before finishing the model.
Glue plastic straws to the bottom of the model car to create axles. Cut holes in four Dixie cups large enough for the straws to fit. Slide the Dixie cups onto the straws. Egg carton cups can also be used for wheels. Cut eight cups from the egg cartons. Cut a small hole in the center of each cup just large enough for the straw. Glue two egg cups back to back so the bottom of the cups are flush. Let the glue dry. Slide the egg cups onto the straws.
Decorate the car with markers. Draw doors on the sides. For racing cars, add flames to the back, Nascar numbers, or sponsor advertisements.
Tips & Warnings
- Use tin foil to create spoilers or mufflers.
- A toothpick makes a great antennae.
- Allow the egg cup wheels to dry thoroughly before attaching them to the straws.
