KitchenAid blenders come in three-, four-, and five-button models, and inspire the same strong emotions as those surrounding KitchenAid stand mixers. The reason is that the reputation does not always match up with the expected performance. With KitchenAid blenders, the rubber coupler tends to break. KitchenAid offers little help, judging by Internet chat, and therefore a very simple fix can be clouded by frustration. The coupler costs a mere 5 or 6 dollars, and it is quite easy to replace.
Things You'll Need
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Replacement coupler
Insert a medium to large flat-head screwdriver between the coupler and the blender housing (the base). Hold the base steady with your free hand.
Bend the coupler upwards by raising the screwdriver wedged beneath it.
Rotate the coupler 1/4 turn, and raise the screwdriver higher. Repeat this turn-lift action until the coupler is freed from the base.
Make sure the threads of the blender shaft are free of any residue from the old coupler.
Place the new coupler on the shaft and turn it counterclockwise until tightened. The coupler is left-hand threaded, continuously tightening during blender operation.
Tips & Warnings
- Buy an extra coupler to keep on hand if the mixer is used heavily.
