Almost every man or woman has woken up, looked in the mirror and seen a pair of puffy eyes staring back at them. Many people think that puffy under eye bags are caused by lack of sleep, but that is only one underlying reason. Under-eye bags can also be the result of genetics, stress, allergies, excessive crying, excessive sodium intake and eye irritation. There are several ways to reduce the puffiness to help your eyes seem fresher and clearer. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Eye cream
  • Moisturizer
  • Apple
  • Knife
  • Cotton balls
  • Ice water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 pint hot water
  • 2 metal teaspoons
  • Cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • Large bowl

Instructions

    • 1

      Place eye cream or moisturizer directly onto the bags with your fingertips. Use a tapping motion to help break up the excess fluid that may be found around the eyes. Placing the eye cream in the refrigerator before application will also help reduce puffiness.

      Cut up an unpeeled apple into thin slices. Place the slices on top of the puffy bags and leave them on for fifteen minutes. The pectin in the apples will work act as an anti-oxidant and reduce the bags.

      Soak two cotton balls in ice water. Squeeze out the excess water and place them directly onto the eye bags. Leave the cotton balls for several minutes. Repeat if desired.

      Pour one tsp. of salt into a pint of steaming hot water. Soak two cotton balls into the mixture and squeeze out the excess water. Place the cotton balls over the eyes for several minutes. This treatment will help reduce the irritation caused by the puffy bags as well as reduce the size of the bags.

      Place two metal teaspoons into the refrigerator. Pull them out each time your eyes become puffy and place the tops of the teaspoons directly onto the bags for two to three minutes, or until they lose their chill.

      Pour a few cups of cold water into a large bowl. Place four to five ice cubes into the water. Close your eyes and splash your face with the cold water for two minutes. The ice water will help reduce the puffiness.
