Cartridge ink can be stubborn to remove.

In theory, refilling an ink cartridge is as simple as injecting the ink into the refill hole with the syringe provided in your refill kit. In reality, it is often a messy, haphazard job, which leaves your hands covered in ink---even just changing the cartridges can get messy. Cartridge inks can be stubborn to remove, so if you've had no luck with soap and water, you need to step up your hand-washing efforts. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hands with lava soap. Lava soap is made with pumice (from volcanic rock, hence the name). The small beads in the soap help exfoliate the skin of your hands, and can take the ink off.

    • 2

Spray your hands with hairspray (any type will do) and leave for 10 seconds before washing off with soapy water.

    • 3

Rub your hands with baby oil, then wash off with soapy water.

    • 4

Wipe the ink-stained part of your hands with baby wipes.

    • 5

Spread grape jelly onto the ink-stained parts of your hands, massaging it into the stain. Leave for around 30 seconds, then wash off with warm soapy water.

    • 6

Rub a dime-sized blob of toothpaste into the ink stain. Make sure it is a paste type of toothpaste, rather than a gel type. Wash off with warm soapy water.

    • 7

Apply hand lotion to the hands after using any of the ink removal methods to soften and protect hands after all that scrubbing.

Tips & Warnings

  • To avoid getting ink on your hands in the first place, wear a pair of disposable latex gloves while refilling or changing ink cartridges.

  • Avoid using bleach to remove ink stains---while it may remove the stains, it can also damage and burn the skin.
