How to Upgrade the Memory on a Dimension 8100

The Dell Dimension 8100 is a desktop computer designed for home use. If you wish to upgrade the memory in this computer, you can do so with a bit of basic computer knowledge, if you're comfortable working with the computer's internal hardware.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the computer and unplug it. Flip the computer on its side and depress the buttons at the top and bottom of the back of the machine.

    • 2

Lift up on the side of the computer to open the case. Locate the computer memory modules in the center of the motherboard.

    • 3

Rotate the power supply out of the way of the memory modules by pressing on the release tab attached to the power supply and then pulling it upwards until it locks into place.

    • 4

Press down on the plastic clips that hold the memory modules in place until the modules pop up. Take them out, then insert the upgraded memory modules into the empty slots. Push them down until the plastic clips at either end snap into place.

    • 5

Rotate the power supply back down into its original position, then close the case.

    • 6

Plug the computer in and turn it on. It is now ready for use with its newly upgraded memory modules.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Dimension 8100 employs RDRAM memory. Its four slots can handle a total of 2GB of memory.

  • Before opening your computer, touch a piece of unpainted metal, or wear an anti-static wrist guard, as static electricity can damage your machine. Handle the memory modules by the outside edges only.
