How to Repair a Frozen MacBook
If you have more than one application running, your MacBook may begin to lag and will display a colored, spinning wheel that indicates it is busy. If the spinning wheel continues for longer than 1 minute, the application may be frozen and must be manually closed through the "Force Quit" feature on the computer. If the computer is completely unresponsive, the laptop may have frozen and requires a reboot in order to unfreeze the computer. Unfortunately, any applications that contain unsaved work will be lost during the reboot, according to Apple.
Instructions
-
Force Quit the Application and Computer
-
1
Click the desktop screen to return to Finder, and click the "Apple" icon in the upper-left corner of the screen. Select "Force Quit" from the drop-down menu. Alternatively, open the Force Quit window by pressing and releasing "Command," "Option" and "Escape" simultaneously.
-
2
Select the application that says "(Not Responding)" and click the "Force Quit" button in the Force Quit window. Click the "Force Quit" button in the pop-up dialog box to confirm you wish to force quit the application.
-
-
3
Press and hold down the "Power" button for 5 seconds to perform a hard shutdown. Press the "Power" button again to turn on the computer.
Reset the PRAM
-
4
Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, and insert the other end of the magnetic end of the power cable into the power port on your MacBook. Check the light indicator on the power adapter to see if it is properly charging. If the problem happens again, your computer will need to have its parameter random access memory (PRAM) reset. The PRAM manages the startup disk on your computer, according to Apple.
-
5
Press and hold the power button on your MacBook for 10 seconds to shut down the computer. Press the power button, and hold down the "Command," "Option," "P" and "R" keys on your keyboard before the gray screen appears.
-
6
Hold down the keys while your computer restarts; release the keys once you hear the computer's startup sound.

I tried to do this and now my macbook won't boot up at all. When I press the power button absolutely nothing happens. Also, when I plug it in, the power adapter is dark and doesn't show that it's charging.
