There are several good reasons to disassemble your Acer laptop. You may be experiencing performance issues with your motherboard, your hard drive might have gone bad or you just might be curious about what it looks like on the inside of your laptop. Whatever reason, it is not terribly difficult to disassemble an Acer laptop. However, it is not a task that should be taken lightly. You can seriously damage the hardware in your laptop if you do not approach this project with caution. Additionally, disassembly will void your laptop's warranty agreement. Instructions

    • 1

      Power-down your Acer laptop, and then disconnect all cables and external devices from your laptop. Close the LCD screen and place the laptop face-down. Remove the battery pack from its compartment and set it aside.

      Remove the Phillips-head screws securing the modem, hard drive, wireless card and RAM compartment covers to the bottom casing of the laptop. Remove the plastic covers and set them aside.

      Remove the single Phillips-head screw securing the CD-ROM drive in place. This screw is located next to the memory compartment near the center of the laptop. Use a flat-head screwdriver to push the CD-ROM drive out of its compartment. Grasp the CD-ROM drive from the outside edge of the laptop and remove it from the laptop completely.

      Locate the hard drive compartment toward the front edge of the laptop. Grasp the black tab protruding from the hard drive compartment, and then lift the hard drive out of its compartment and set it aside.

      Locate the RAM compartment, and then spread the retaining tabs on either side of the RAM module. Tilt the RAM module at a 45-degree angle and lift the module out of the memory compartment. Repeat this step for each RAM module in the memory compartment.

      Locate the wireless card on the bottom right-hand corner of the laptop. Disconnect the two antenna cables, and then spread the retaining latches on either side of the wireless card and lift the card out of its compartment and set it aside.

      Locate the CPU cooling fan in the upper right-hand corner of the laptop. Remove the two Phillips-head screws securing the fan in place, disconnect the fan's power cable from the motherboard and remove the fan assembly from the laptop and set it aside.

      Place the laptop face up, and then open the LCD screen as far as it will go. Use a small, flat-head screwdriver to pry up the keyboard cover located between the keyboard and the LCD screen. Remove the cover and set it aside.

      Remove the Phillips-head screws securing the keyboard to the upper laptop casing. Lift up on the keyboard and place it face-down over the trackpad. Disconnect the keyboard's ribbon connector from the motherboard, and then remove it from the laptop and set it aside.
