Insulating the open walls of the garage is a relatively easy project. Instructions

    • 1

Measure the open garage wall from floor to ceiling, taking the measurement from just inside the top and bottom horizontal braces.

    • 2

Unroll your paper-backed fiberglass insulation and pull your tape measure out alongside it to the length that you measured on the wall. Lay a carpenter's square across the insulation at that distance and cut it with your razor knife.

    • 3

Press the insulation against the wall, between the first two studs, with the paper side facing into the garage and the fiberglass side facing the wall. Staple the piece in place by shooting staples through the paper tabs on the sides of the insulation and into the sides of the studs on either side.

Repeat the process for the space between each pair of studs. Use your razor knife to cut the insulation away to fit around electrical boxes as necessary.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear cloth gloves, goggles, a dust mask and clothing that covers all your skin when handling fiberglass insulation.
