How to Run Repair Mode from the Windows XP CD-ROM
Windows XP has a repair mode called a "Repair Installation" that--when run--reinstalls the operating system on your computer without deleting any of your personal information. This repair installation is handy for fixing problems with the system files on your XP system.

Start your computer from the Windows XP CD-ROM by pressing the DEL or Function key displayed on the screen as the "Boot Menu" key when you restart the computer.

Choose the "Boot from CD-ROM" option, press any key when prompted and wait for the file loading process to finish.

Press the "Enter" key and press the "F8" key.

Select your XP operating system installation and press the "R" key. The repair mode starts and runs a repair installation on your computer.
