How to Make a Valentine's Choclate Gift Basket

Delicious chocolates make a great Valentine's Day gift basket

For a chocolate lover, nothing says "love" like a basket full of chocolate specialty items. When creating a chocolate gift basket, buy chocolate candies and treats, and then add in chocolate scented items, such as candles and lotion, to give the basket an extra special touch.

• Patterned fabric
• Chocolate candies
• Hot cocoa mix
• Clear cellophane bags
• Ribbon
• Specialty chocolates
• Chocolate scented items
• Individually wrapped chocolate candies

Instructions

1. Choose a basket. Find a large gift basket that can be re-purposed for use around the recipient's home after it is empty. Home goods stores carry a wide variety of baskets that you can purchase. Choose a basket in a color that will match the recipient's furniture and decor.

2. Buy a piece of fabric to place inside of the basket. Since you are making the basket for Valentine's Day, you can buy red or pink fabric, or something with a heart pattern. If you want something more elegant, choose an elegant gold or brown patterned fabric, to match the chocolate theme. The fabric should measure a few inches bigger than the interior of the basket, large enough to cover the bottom and sides of the basket and overflow over the edges slightly.

3. Make or buy a variety of your loved one's favorite chocolate snacks, such as chocolate-covered pretzels, chocolate-covered cherries and chocolate-covered strawberries. Wrap them in cellophane bags and tie them closed with ribbons.

4. Put containers of chocolate syrup, hot fudge topping and chocolate sprinkles in the back of the basket. Also position any other taller items along the back. Add chocolate scented items, such as chocolate candles, chocolate lotion and chocolate bubble bath in the center of the basket.

5. Add high quality chocolate, such as Ghiradelli and other imported chocolates. Pour hot chocolate mix into a plastic bag and add marshmallows. Tie the bag closed with a ribbon. Place the bag in a coffee mug and set it in the center of the basket.

6. Sprinkle a variety of small, individually wrapped chocolate candies, such as Hershey Kisses and mini candy bars, and them throughout the basket as filler.
