How to Make Your Own Free Greeting Cards Using JPG Files
Making your own greeting card is a great way to tell someone that you care about them. By using your own pictures you can make your greeting card as funny, sentimental or original as you want and you can be sure that it will be one of a kind. A JPG file, otherwise known as a JPEG, is the most common form of an image file and can be easily used to help make a greeting card for your family and friends.

1
Choose the JPG photo files that you are using in your greeting card. You could use a single picture for the front of the card or you might consider printing a few smaller photos to the inside of the greeting card. Ensure that the picture reflects the style and theme of the card. For example, if you are giving a funny Christmas card to your mother and she loves pets you might want to use a photo of the family dog in a Christmas hat.

Open two pages in a word processing program and set both pages to a landscape style. The first page is going to form the outside of your card (i.e. the cover) and the second page will form the inside. Most word processing programs have a "Page Setup" option where you can change the layout of your page. Also, use a line-drawing tool to split your page equally in half: this will show you exactly where to insert your text and images.

3
Insert the JPG images into the greeting card using the word software's "Insert" function. If you are using a picture for the front of your card, place it onto the right-hand side of the cover page. Similarly, an image for the back of the card should be placed on the left-hand side of the cover page. Experiment with using borders around your images or placing smaller pictures onto the inside of the card. Also, make sure you use high-quality JPG images so that you print the clearest and sharpest card you can.
-
4
Write the greeting text into the card. Place the greeting onto the right-hand side of the inside page. Experiment with different fonts, colors and sizes. For example, a card for a child might be bold, colorful and fun whereas a Christmas card might use a traditional green and red theme. Make sure that you remove any lines you have inserted for reference so that they are not printed on the final card.

5
Print your personalized greeting card. If you are using a PC printer from home, insert the blank piece of card paper into the printer and print the inside and the outside of the card onto both sides of the page. Try printing onto different colored card to change the color of your final greeting card.

Tips & Warnings
You don't have to use pictures that you have taken yourself. Instead, download JPG images from the Internet to use in your greeting cards. However, you must ensure that you have gained the photographer's consent to use the image if it is copyright protected. A standard high-quality image is at least 1mb in size and has a minimum of 300dpi (dots per inch).
