How to Troubleshoot a Brother Intellifax 770 Printer thumbnail
Paper can get jammed in the printer.

The Brother Intellifax model 770 fax machine has a printer for producing incoming faxes. Some problems that can occur with the printer will be indicated by error messages on the display. Other kinds of problems will be indicated by a lack of proper printing performance. Troubleshooting problems will help identify the cause of the issue. Once the cause of a problem with the printer has been identified, it can be resolved by the user in most cases.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the paper tray if the display indicates "Check Paper." Open the paper cover by pulling it toward the front of the machine. Press the blue release tabs on the right and left sides of the top cover. Lift the top cover up and back to open it. Remove any jammed paper. Close the top and front covers.

    • 2

Load the paper tray with blank paper. If the unit runs out of paper, it will not be able to print incoming faxes.

    • 3

Unplug the fax machine if the display indicates "Printer Fault." This message means the printing head has overheated. Leave it unplugged for at least 30 minutes to cool down.

    • 4

Make sure the top cover is fully closed if the display indicates "Top Cover Open." The printer will not function if the top cover is not closed.

    • 5

Unplug the power cord to clean the printer head if printouts are streaked. Open the top cover. Wipe the metal part of the print head with a lint-free cloth that is slightly moistened with rubbing alcohol.
