How to Weave Curly Hair
Weaving curly hair is one of the most popular extension styles. Using curly hair for your weave, when your natural texture is straight or relaxed, requires that you track or cornrow all of your hair and do not leave any of your hair free for the completed weave style. This is the foundation for your extensions. A curly full weave will produce a natural result since none of your natural hair will be visible and does not need to match in texture or color. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 1/2 lb or 2 packs of curly human extension hair on a weft
- Weaving cord
- Weaving or carpet needle
- Scissors
- Rattail comb
- Clips
- Closure piece (optional)
Instructions
-

1
Part your hair in a section about 1/2-inch wide around the circumference of your head at the hairline using a rattail comb. Secure remaining hair with clips.
-
2
Begin cornrowing your hair in this circular pattern and, before getting to the end of the braid, secure the end with a clip to keep it from unraveling.

3
Part the hair in a section about 1/2-inch wide around the circumference of the head directly above the completed row. Secure loose hair with a clip. Remove the clip from the end of the competed row and continue the cornrow or french braid, grabbing the hair in the newly parted row. Repeat Steps 1 to 3 until all of the hair is cornrowed.
-
4
Thread the needle with weaving cord with about an arm's length of cord. Tie a small knot in the end of the cord to prevent slipping when you sew. Sew the completed center braid down the back of the head, crossing the completed rows, to prevent it from showing through the completed weave.
-
5
Measure the curly hair weft to circumference of your head, against the first cornrow at your hairline. Cut the weft to this length. Put aside remaining extension hair.
-
6
Using a whip or blanket stitch, begin sewing the curly weft to your cornrow track. Do not begin to sew the weft in the front center of the head. Begin the sewing closer to the temple or ear. When you have reached the end of the cord, within about one inch, cut and tie the thread tightly against the head several times. Re-thread the needle and continue in this fashion until you reach the center of the head.
-
7
Continue sewing and tying small pieces of extension hair to fill in the center of the weave until all tracks are covered. Alternately, you may use a closure piece and sew it to the center of the head to conceal tracks.

Tips & Warnings
Curly hair weaves can tangle easily.
Never sleep on wet hair.
Braid the hair in two large braids at night to avoid tangles.
Sleep in a silk scarf to avoid damage to your extensions.
Use oil-free products on curly hair weaves to seal in moisture without heaviness.
Though you can do this yourself, it is recommended that you visit a hairstylist for properly weaving curly hair.
Breakage and damage can result from improper removal of your hair extensions.
Enlist the help of a friend or a professional to cut the threads and remove the curly hair wefts from your tracks..
Do not wear extensions longer than 6 to 8 weeks as matting and breakage of your natural hair is more likely when your hair has grown more than 1 inch.
