How to Patch a Tear in a Canvas Awning
A canvas awning bears the brunt of the environment on a constant basis and is susceptible to worn spots and tears. Patch a tear in a canvas awning to prevent the tear from increasing in size and ruining the awning. You will need a few household supplies and a specially made canvas patch, which you can purchase from a hardware store or a garden and home supply. Things You'll Need
- Glass bowl
- 6 oz. white vinegar
- 6 oz. distilled water
- Spray bottle
- Clean cloth
- Awning patch

Make a solution of 6 oz. white vinegar and 6 oz. distilled water in a glass bowl.

Pour the mixture into a spray bottle.

Moisten a clean cloth with distilled water. Rub the visible side of the canvas awning around the outside of the tear. Spray the area around the tear with the solution in the spray bottle. Let the awning dry.

Remove 1 to 2 inches of the sticker backing from one end of the awning patch.

Smooth down the visible side of the awning on both sides of the tear with your fingers.

Place the exposed end of the awning patch 1 inch above the tear on the visible side of the awning. Push the awning patch onto the tear while pulling off the sticker backing with your fingers.

Smooth the awning patch over the tear with your fingers. Dispose of the sticker backing in the trash.
