Homemade Holiday Paper Stockings
Hanging stockings from a mantel in the hope that Santa Claus will fill them with goodies is a favorite Christmas tradition. This year, let your kids make stockings out of paper. Paper holiday stockings are simple and inexpensive to make, and kids can be as creative as they like decorating their stockings. It's so easy, your kids can make a stocking for everyone they know.
Things You'll Need
- Paper bag or cardstock
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue
- Hole punch
- Yarn or thin ribbon
- Embellishments and decorating supplies
Instructions

1
On a paper bag or cardstock, trace the shape of a stocking or large sock.
-
2
Cut out the shape you drew and trace it onto another piece of cardstock or paper bag. Cut out the second shape so you have two identical stocking pieces.
-
-
3
Lay one piece of the stocking on a flat surface. Glue all around the edges, except for the top edge. Place the second piece over the first and line up the edges so they match. Press down the edges firmly to adhere the two pieces together. Let dry for a couple minutes.
-
4
Punch holes around the edges of the stocking except the top edge.
-
5
Starting at the right top edge, stick a piece of yarn or thin ribbon through the first hole. Weave the yarn or ribbon through all the holes around the stocking. Take the end of the string at the top left side of the stocking and pull out a few inches. Make a loop and tie in a double knot. Tie the end of the right side (where you started weaving) into a double knot and cut off the excess.
-
6
Make as many stockings as you desire. Use crayons, markers, stickers, paint, glitter, rhinestones, feathers, and fabric to decorate the stockings.
