How to Fix a Reverse DNS Lookup

Reverse DNS lookups are used by a computer to determine the IP address of a given domain name. If the DNS cache on your computer hasn't been cleared, it can cause problems performing accurate reverse DNS lookups. The solution is to clear your DNS cache, thus enabling a clean reverse DNS lookup.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Start" button and open up "Run."

    • 2

Type "cmd.exe" and then press the "Enter" key to open a command prompt window.

    • 3

Type "ipconfig /flushdns" into the command prompt window, without quotes, and the DNS cache is flushed. Your reverse DNS lookups now work properly.
