How to Fix the Belt on a Honda Snowblower
A snow blower is an essential part of man's battle against old man winter. When working properly, this device can safely clear a path for humans and their vehicles. However, some parts tend to wear out over time and require replacement. A common failure is the auger belt, which is a relatively easy fix. Most users are capable of replacing the auger belt in less than an hour by using readily available hand tools. Honda recommends checking the belt system on it's snow blowers annually unless a specific problem warrants earlier inspection. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Park the snow blower on a flat, level surface in an above-freezing environment, so that parts may be removed without sticking together (especially if they are moist). Disconnect the spark plug wire leading to the spark plug, so that you do not accidentally start the engine. Shut off the fuel supply at the fuel valve located directly beneath the fuel tank. Turn the valve clockwise 1/2 turn to shut it off. Remove the gas cap, and place a kitchen baggie over the gas filler opening, then replace the cap tightly. This will prevent gas seepage during the next step.

2
Tip the snow blower forward so that it is resting on its auger shroud to expose the base plate. The base plate is located between the two wheels and extends forward to the auger shroud. Remove the bolts holding the plate in place with a metric socket wrench. Beneath the base plate you will see a belt cover, which keeps the belt free from debris. Remove this cover as well using a metric socket wrench.

Locate the auger drive belt and use your fingers to roll the belt from the drive pulley--located just in front of the engine. Once the belt is loose, roll it from the auger pulley as well. The auger pulley is located in front of the drive pulley, adjacent to the auger drive shaft. The drive belt will now be free for removal.

4
Follow the reverse order of the previous belt removal steps to put the snow blower back in operating condition. Tighten everything securely. Tip the machine right side up, reconnect the spark plug wire and remove the plastic baggie from the gas cap. Briefly test the machine to assure functionality before it is subjected to freezing conditions.
