Do not hide from an EEOC complaint against you; instead respond honestly and openly immediately

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is a federal agency that regulates and enforces practices of equality within the workplace. It is illegal for an employer to discriminate against employees or potential employees based on race, gender, sexual preference or age. The EEOC makes sure that businesses act with integrity in the treatment of all of their employees. If there is ever question whether your company has treated the employees with equality, a concerned employee has the right to formally lodge a complaint against your company and you as the employer. Upon receiving a complaint, it is important that you act swiftly.

Instructions

    • 1

Review the complaint thoroughly. Consider contacting a legal consultant if you are unsure of the meaning of some of the allegations in the complaint.

    • 2

Interview the individuals involved in the complaint. Be professional and respectful. Record their accounts of the incident as clearly as possible. Do not delegate this job; dealing with it yourself will better prepare you to write a thorough and appropriate response.

    • 3

Review any third-party evidence of the incident. This could include interviews or any internal company paperwork filed around the original event.

    • 4

Prepare your response after collecting as much data about the event as possible. Make sure you are familiar with the incident. Write an outline for your response so that you don't forget any important information that could help your position.

    • 5

Compose your response carefully. Use neutral language and avoid reacting emotionally. Your response should be thorough and comprehensive and completely accurate. Verify all the facts you include in your response. Keep a copy of both the response and the original complaint.
