Make your own pink shawl.

Shawls are a wonderful thing for people who tend to get cold. They are easy to tote. They can be draped over the arms, wrapped all the way around you or pulled over your legs to keep you warm. Shawls are simple to make and can be made for cold weather or just cool weather. The directions below are for a spring shawl. It will not be too hot and can be worn outside during the early morning or late afternoon in the spring or early summer.

    Things You'll Need

    • 5 4-ounce skeins of yarn (medium-weight yarn)
    • Size K needle
    • Yarn needle
    • Scissors
      • 1

Choose your colors. You can either make your shawl a solid pink or make rows of different shades of pink. If you are using different colors, decide which order the colors will be on the shawl. Sketch out your color pattern on a piece of paper, so that you will not get confused. Change colors as necessary to make the color pattern that you desire.

Using your base color, chain 181 stitches. This will create your base row.

      • 3

Stitch the first row. Make a double crochet into the third chain stitch from the end on the base row. Chain one stitch. Double crochet into the fifth stitch in the line. Continue doing one chain stitch, then one double crochet into every other chain stitch in the base row. Continue until you reach the end of the 181 chain stitches.

Start crocheting row 2. Chain 2, and double crochet into each open fillet hole all the way across the row.

      • 5

Begin crocheting row 3 through row 20. Repeat the directions for row 2 until you reach the end of row 20.

      • 6

Stitch row 21 to create the border. Chain 7, and single crochet into each open fillet hole all the way across. This will create a lacy looking edge all the way across the bottom of the shawl. Fasten off the ends, and weave them in.

    Tips & Warnings

    • If you would like to make this shawl into a winter shawl, crochet rows of material to weave through the shawl. Chain 181, double crochet into each chain stitch. When you reach the end of the row, chain 2, and double crochet into each double crochet until you reach the end. Tie off the end, and weave the ends in. Make 20 of these strips of material. Weave 1 of the strips straight across the row. Follow the same procedure for each of the strips. Once all of the strips has been woven in, sew the edges in using the yarn needle and yarn. Make sure that you weave in any loose threads once you have finished sewing in the edges. This will make an extremely warm winter shawl. If you make the strips in a contrasting color it will create a more interesting pattern.
