Electronic keys offer added engine safety

Among the variety of Lexus models, the IS300 features capabilities for the popular electronic key technology. Also known as an ignition key, a chip key or a transponder key, this cut key allows you to add an extra sense of convenience and security to your car. Once programmed into the car's transmitter, only a programmed key can start the ignition of your car. It is possible to reset keys that have lost their signal using the OBD Toyota key programming, which can be purchased from Toyota or online from automotive dealers.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter your car and insert a programmed key into the ignition.

    • 2

Connect your programmer to the OBD-II port in your Lexus, which is located under the dash near the ignition space, and labeled as such.

    • 3

Wait for a few long beeps on the system and remove the programmer from the port.

    • 4

Insert the key back into the ignition and leave it for five seconds, wait for the beeps and remove.

    • 5

Repeat the previous step with another programmed key and then with the key you wish to reset. After the beeps for the third key the resetting will be complete.
