1
Unplug your Kenmore washing machine from the wall outlet in your laundry room.
-
2
Remove the fabric softener and detergent trays from the washing machine. Fill a bucket with hot water and allow the trays to soak. This will break up a lot of the gunk that has built up on the trays.

3
Clean all mold, mildew, or soap scum off the trays, using an all-purpose cleaner and sponge. Rinse the trays off in the sink to remove the all-purpose cleaner before you put them back into the unit.
-
4
Scrub the outside of the washer next to the tray inserts with the all-purpose cleaner and a sponge or paper towel. Get all of the mold and mildew off the unit.
-
5
Replace the trays in the washer and fill them up with vinegar. Run the washer with the vinegar on the "Large" or "Super" load settings. Turn the temperature setting to "Hot." This will completely wash all of the mold and mildew off the washer tub. Allow the washer to complete the cycle.
-
6
Run an empty cycle with only water to completely wash away any vinegar left in the system.
