Instructions

    • 1

Drink a glass of cold milk or half-and-half very slowly. Allow the liquid to sit in your mouth and swish it around liberally so the fats from the liquid can coat your taste buds thoroughly.

    • 2

Eat frozen ice cream, taking small bites. Allow the coldness of the ice cream to soothe the burning and move the ice cream around your mouth to enable the fats in the ice cream to neutralize the capsaicin in the cayenne pepper.

    • 3

Take small bites of yogurt in your mouth and move the yogurt around your mouth to counteract the cayenne pepper.

    • 4

Continue eating or drinking whatever dairy product you choose to continue to remove the taste and soothe the burning.

Tips & Warnings

  • Other food items that may provide some relief include plain rice, bread, alcoholic drinks, heavy fruit syrup and olive oil.

  • Avoid water to remove the taste and burn of cayenne pepper. The water will not neutralize the capsaicin and may actually make the burning worse.
