Opening a checking account online is often faster than driving to your local bank, and it allows you to compare bank fees so that you can get the best deal on your checking account.

Make a list of potential banks that you might like to use for your checking account. Most people focus on banks that have a local bank branch nearby so that they can easily make deposits and withdrawals.

Visit the Web sites of the banks on your list and compare the online checking account fees and requirements. Some banks charge monthly or annual fees, while others require you to maintain a minimum balance in the checking account.
