How to String Beads Through the Webbing of a Dreamcatcher
Although many stores sell kits for making your own dreamcatcher, most of them decline to mention how to add beads to the spiderweb-like lacing. Adding beads in this manner can turn a dreamcatcher into an eyecatcher. Although it is not hard to modify a dreamcatcher as you build it, you should have a good idea of where you want your beads before you begin. Backtracking too much can be laborious.

1
Loop the thread or jewelry wire around the hoop and tie it into a knot so that the thread is firmly attached.
-
2
Pinch the knot and hoop between your fingers to keep the knot from moving around. Use your other hand to wind the thread around the rim of the hoop until you come 360 degrees. The wound thread should be very loose, with two inches between each revolution. Make sure that there is an equal amount of space between each part of the wound thread.

3
Grab the wound thread one revolution up from the knot and tug on it. Tug the thread toward the center of the hoop until it is an inch away from the hoop. You have just created the first loop in your webbing. Tug at the thread all around the loop, drawing each revolution towards the center. Use your fingers to guide the thread and keep each hitch in the thread equidistant from the others.

4
Take the end of your thread and pass it through the first loop you created. This begins the second tier in your web. Pass the thread through each loop inside the hoop to create the new tier. On any loop on which you want a bead, tie a knot on the thread or wire and slide a bead on to the string. Tie another knot on the other side of the bead. Do not place the bead on the middle of your loop, as this spot will be used by the next tier of webbing. Instead, place the bead either ¼ or 3/4ths of the way down the loop.
-
5
Continue to string the thread through each loop. Doing so creates ever smaller tiers of webbing. Place your beads wherever you like. When you get within an inch and a half of the center of the hoop, pass the thread through each loop and pull it tight. This will pull all the previous tiers of webbing toward the center, drawing your dreamcatcher taut. Knot the end of your thread around itself and trim it with a pair of scissors.
