The toner cartridge in your HP printer provides the necessary fluid so the printer can operate. The standard procedure is that, when the cartridge runs out of toner, you simply replace it. This is easy and convenient, but what you may not have known is that it's possible to open your HP toner cartridge to physically replace the toner yourself. The best part is that the entire procedure can be performed in a limited amount of time.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the Toner cartridge from your HP printer. Consult the user guide to your particular model printer to find out how to properly remove the toner cartridge.

    • 2

Place your cartridge over a towel or cloth to catch any toner that may come out of it when you open it. Then turn it over so you are looking at the right side of the cartridge.

    • 3

Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove all screws on the side of the cartridge. Then set the screws aside and use your fingers to pull the side panel off the cartridge.

    • 4

Slide the metal bar in the middle of the side panel out by its end and set the metal bar aside.

    • 5

Remove all screws from the other side of the cartridge and then remove the side panel as well. Then use your fingers to separate the front half of the toner cartridge from the back half. The cartridge is now completely disassembled.
