Learn to defrag your computer's RAM with RAM Defrag 2.4 and RAM Def Xtreme 2.6.

Most computer users know they need to defragment their computer's hard drive, but few know they should, or can, defragment their computer's RAM. RAM (random access memory) is a form of electronic computer memory that temporarily stores data and files so your computer can perform both simple and complex functions quickly and efficiently. There are several third-party utility programs that you can use to defragment your computer's RAM. Fortunately, this is not a terribly difficult procedure.

Instructions

  1. Using RAM Defrag 2.84

      Visit Brothersoft's RAM Defrag 2.84 page (see Resources) and locate the "Click to Download" link next to the "Server 1" option. Double-click on that link to download the RAM Defrag 2.84 download file to your desktop.

      Double-click the "ram_defrag_english.exe" file on your desktop and follow the onscreen instructions to install the software. Restart your computer.

      Locate the RAM Defrag 2.84 software. Click on the "Start" menu, click "All Programs" and select "RAM Defrag" in the list of available programs.

      Click on the "Defrag" button to begin the defragmentation process. Click on the "Exit" button to close the program once it has finished defragmenting your computer's RAM.

    Using CNET's RAM Def XTreme 2.6

      Go to CNET's RAM Def XTreme 2.6 page (see Resources) and click on the "Download Now" button. The download folder and its contents will automatically save to your "Downloads" folder.

      Locate your "Downloads" folder and open the folder named "rdef26xt." Double-click on the file named "rdef26xt.exe." Follow the onscreen instructions to install RAM Def Xtreme 2.6. Restart your computer.

      Locate the RAM Def Xtreme program in the "All Programs" menu in your computer. Open the program, go to the "Options" drop-down menu, and reset the warning intervals and RAM definitions to your desired settings. Click on the "OK" button when finished.

      Click on the "Start" button to begin defragmenting your computer's RAM.
